From £3000 for whole apartment self-catered
Inside-of-cuckoo-clock
charming chalet apartment
usp
Chalet Heidi is, as the name suggests, the cutest, most gorgeous little chalet apartment you could dream of, all creaking wood and cuckoo clock cosiness, yet newly refurbed with every mod con. It is a genuine find, a perfect, pocket-sized alpine hideaway.
location
The chalet apartment takes up the whole of the first floor of a properly traditional Swiss chalet, right in the heart of Zermatt between the church and the school and near the main shopping street. It faces south and has wooden balconies on all sides that are bathed in sunshine, with views over a rushing mountain stream and up to the mountains beyond.
style
It is very much old alpine meets new, lots of weathered wood panelling and wooden ceilings but with modern spotlights, a lovely old wood burner with a modern glass door, granite walls but designer furnishings. There is an LCD flat screen TV with DVD and cable, plus a kitchen with sleek, modern appliances. ^
rooms
There are three lovely bedrooms that aren’t huge but feel perfectly cosy. The biggest has a double bed and en-suite bathroom with shower, the second biggest can either be a double or two singles and has a bathroom next door, while the third is the smallest but has the biggest en-suite bathroom with big bath and rainfall shower. Bathrooms come complete with bathrobes and slippers. ^

for skiers
Zermatt has heaps to offer skiers and the chalet operators can sort out everything from advance ski pass collection to 10% off ski rental, pre-booking of ski school (the chalet primarily uses Stoked, the leading independent school in Zermatt), helicopter drops, you name it. ^
for non skiers
Zermatt is a perfect resort for the non-skier too: gorgeous shops galore, horse drawn sleigh rides, the scenic Gornergratt railway to take you up the mountain with no need of skis, the Matterhorn Museum and even a designer cinema. ^
best thing
The cute interiors and the location. ^
worst thing
The bedrooms are not big, but they feel really cosy and mountain hideaway. ^
getting there
The nearest airports are Geneva (quickest by car), Zurich (quickest by train) and Sion. Transfers can be arranged by the chalet. ^
bottom line
