Chalet Le Ti
Verbier
Sleeps 8

Traditional Swiss chocolate box

usp
Chalet Le Ti is small but perfectly formed. It is another property run by Charlie and Liz Berman, owners of Chalet Kernow, and is more cosy, less of a grand home than Kernow, while benefiting from all the same luxuries such as the extensive wine list and 24/7 driver.

location
Le Ti is located just 300m from the Medran lift station in Verbier. It is slightly removed from the road and has stunning views down the valley.

style
It is a very old woody, hugely charming chalet, almost traditional knick-knacky, with gingham curtains and scarlet cushions everywhere, But there is the odd quirky touch such as a floor to ceiling carved Moroccan lamp and a red glass chandelier. It has tiny windows, and a lovely wooden ladder leading to a mezzanine area above the main living space as well as a cute, restaurant-style dining snug in the corner with bench seats.

rooms
There are two double ensuite bedrooms, one triple single bed bunkroom with ensuite bathroom and an open plan mezzanine twin room with separate bathroom. The style is mountain rustic throughout, with lots of aged wood and wooden sink tops. Jo Malone supplies the toiletries.

food & drink
The food perfectly matches the chalet at Le Ti: hearty and home-cooked in feel, rather than fancy. No intercourse sorbets or fiddly nouvelle cuisine, more the sort of stuff you crave after thrashing the slopes and being in the fresh air all day. It is top quality, nevertheless, at the same time as being totally homely. Dishes ranged from a deliciously simple steak and ale pie to confit of duck, roast monkfish tail and pan fried fillet of black bream.

The wines are, as with Kernow, out of this world. An excellent, complimentary selection of six house reds and six house whites can be upgraded to anything from Charlie’s almost insane collection. Krug is offered to guests on arrival, while the house champagne is Villa de la Reine Grand Cru. ^

service
There but not there. The staff are charming and friendly, capably led by Neil, the rock star resort manager. They are at ease with the often celebrity/heavy-hitting business clientele and subtly notice stuff that you might want doing, but fade into the background when not required.
 ^

spa facilities
There is no spa at Le Ti.
 ^

children
Chalet Le Ti lends itself perfectly to family groups and children. It has a bunk room and an open mezzanine area above the living space which doubles as a bedroom – perhaps more for kids. All the usual child-friendly facilities are on offer, from babysitting and childcare to toys, games consoles and more traditional board games such as Lego. For babies, essential supplies like bottles of Calpol are in stock and nappies, wipes, nannies, you name it can all be arranged. There is also a great TV snug area in the basement with a good range of kids’ DVDs and a pool table for older children. A small, safe garden area out the back of the chalet is also great for snowman making and snowball fights.
 ^

extras
The chalet offers 24/7 transport throughout the resort. Parking is available for three guest cars, too. The Bermans also co-own Chez Dany, one of the most popular mountain restaurants in Verbier, and a table is reserved there every day for guests for their exclusive use. They just need to notify by 11am if they don’t want to eat there.

for skiers
Chalet Le Ti uses instructors from Performance Verbier, which is run by two fun British guys, and European Snowsports, carefully matching instructor to guest ability and taste. The instructors can be raised at a moment’s notice, such are the chalet’s relationships with the two ski schools, although obviously it is preferred if guests can anticipate need in advance.
 ^

for non skiers
Non-skiers or fair-weather skiers can hang out in the cosey chalet watching movies, take a trip to the thermal spa near Sion, have a go at snow shoe walking, husky riding or even paragliding. The suggestions come thick and fast.
 ^

best thing
The gorgeous Swiss-chocolate-box feel of the chalet.
 ^

worst thing
The lack of spa facilities, which might trouble some folk. ^

getting there
Fly to the nearest airport, which is Geneva or Sion, and private transfers can be arranged through the chalet – at an extra cost. Le Ti, like all other chalets in Verbier, is not allowed by local law to lay on transport beyond the resort, hence a private company has to be used.
 ^

bottom line
The chalet sleeps up to 8 and costs from £1060pp per week, based on full occupancy, rising to £2650. The price includes all meals, spirits and excellent house wines.
