Beautiful new chalet

usp
Chalet Paradis offers supremely comfortable and exclusive accommodation in a quieter corner of the Chamonix Valley suitable for families or groups of friends. With the full visual drama of the Mont Blanc range played out on the doorstep, this light and spacious new-build is the perfect chalet for an Alpine break both in the winter and summer.

location
Paradis is situated in the much sought after area of Les Tines close to the golf course and the walking paths that you take you down the valley into Chamonix town centre. Les Tines is an open and sunny area. The chalet is well situated for accessing all the skiing that the valley has to offer, with no ski area more than 10 minutes drive away. Brevent, the closest area, is just two minutes. Chamonix itself is just four minutes down the road by car.

style
A cool, clean contemporary build yet impeccably styled with a mix of designer and antique furnishings that give the chalet a warm and welcoming ambience. ^

rooms
There are three double bedrooms on the first floor, one of which is the master with en suite and access to a balcony with views down the valley to Mont Blanc. The other two bedrooms share a family bathroom and one has a private balcony. There is a fourth en suite bedroom on the second floor, which has been designed primarily with children in mind. There are two beds each in their own separate alcoves, plenty of space for toys and Sky TV. The beds are proper full size so this bedroom is suitable for grown-ups too. All bedrooms are simply decorated with lovely designer touches in the furnishings and lighting. Quality fresh, crisp linen and fluffy duvets complete the picture. The bathrooms are beautifully tiled and there are complimentary Bamford Body bath products.

food & drink
Chalet Paradis is totally flexible, lending itself especially well to self-catering with its fabulously set up kitchen, although a chef can easily be raised for all or part of your stay. The fridge can be fully stocked for your arrival (you agree beforehand what you want buying in via a long pre-order list sent out to you by the operator). The chef costs around £35pp for each evening meal. As for wine, a selection of excellent house wines is laid on, with the option of upgrading to more exciting ones at an extra cost. Veuve Clicquot is the on-tap house champagne, with the tempting possibility of spending up on other fizzes such as vintage Krug.
^

service
The couple who run the chalet company are delightful and very relaxed as well as totally professional. The staff are in evidence if you need them, but disappear quietly if not. ^

spa facilities
There is an outdoor tub, accessible from the ground floor terrace, where you can sit and gaze at the stunning peaks of the Mont Blanc Massif.
^

children
The chalet is really child-friendly. Jamie and Julia, who run the chalet business, have young children, hence they are highly aware of all the possible needs of parents. Baby monitors, security gates, sterilising equipment, you name it, can all be provided, including even a wooden cot if parents prefer that to a travel cot. Spare bedrooms can be turned into playrooms for little ones, plus excellent nannies and babysitters can be raised or even chalet staff can wade in and help with escorting children to and from ski school.
^

extras
There is a huge plasma TV as well as a Bose home cinema system, DVD player, and Sky TV. There are iPod docks and a stereo system. The chalet also has wifi. The garage has parking for two cars, there is a boot room with heated boot rack, ski racks and for the ski DIY enthusiast an antique workbench for waxing skis.

for skiers
Chamonix is a serious skier’s nirvana, and Jamie Strachan, who co-runs the chalet company, used to be the British number one free-skiing champion between 1998 and 2004. As such he is superbly connected with many of the heavy-duty skiers based in the Chamonix valley. He can organise a day’s skiing for guests with living legend Glen Plake, for example, a good friend. Director/producer Thierry Donard will also come and talk interested parties frame-by-frame through one of his vintage ski videos, while Jamie, too, will take guests out skiing for free – and you can’t get more expert than that. For more information on skiing in the Chamonix Valley, read our Chamonix guide.
^

for non skiers
All sorts of other activities can be laid on for the non-skier. There are hot springs trips through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Pré St Didier in Courmayeur, shopping day trips to Verbier or Milan (just a 1hr 30mins heli ride away), even watch-buying trips to Geneva. Heli sight-seeing trips to Italy have also been popular in the past, as have snow-shoe walking expeditions and husky sledding sessions. For more information on non-skiing activities in the Chamonix Valley, read our Chamonix guide.
^

best thing
The light, airy feel of the chalet, particularly when the sun streams through the windows. Also the kid’s top floor bedroom, where they can hide away from the adults.
^

worst thing
Two bedrooms do not have en suite bathrooms. ^

getting there
The chalet will pick you up from the nearest airport which is Geneva. Many guests arrive by private jet at Sion, and they will pick up from there too, or either Geneva, Martigny or Annecy train stations. Sometimes transfers are included, sometimes not – depending on the package you arrange with them.
^

bottom line
Chalet Paradis sleeps up to 8 and can only be booked as a whole chalet. Prices start from around £830pp for an uncatered package.
