While many chalets cater for big groups upwards of 10, Chalet Zanana is one of those rare finds: a gorgeous chalet that is just for four. It is a first floor apartment and is hugely stylish with lots of brushed steel and a shiny, lacquered red kitchen.

location
The apartment is located only five minutes’ walk from the nearest lift, and around 150m from the centre of the secluded hamlet of Winkelmatten, known as the Beverly Hills of Zermatt. It is in an easy ski-back quiet location, if you take the Moos run down (this brings you to within five minutes of the chalet) and there is a bus stop three minutes away that takes you to the Matterhorn Express base lift station. The centre of Zermatt is around 15 minutes’ walk away.

style
Industrial chic. The super high sloping bleached wood ceiling complements the free standing brushed steel contemporary wood burner that you can walk around and the open-plan pillar-box red shiny kitchen, complete with central island and full range of professional equipment. There are generous-sized balconies outside two sets of French windows plus two big designer sofas, one in front of the fire and the other parked opposite a large LCD television. ^

There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and walk-in wardrobe, the other with a double that can be made up as twins. Neither is en-suite, but the apartment has a beautiful designer bathroom complete with bath, separate shower and two sinks. ^

Zanana is probably more of an adult chalet apartment, ideal for two smart, style-conscious couples. ^

extras
There is wifi throughout, a ski room, a laundry room in the basement and a DVD player. ^

for skiers
Zermatt has heaps to offer skiers and the chalet operators can sort out everything from advance ski pass collection to 10% off ski rental, pre-booking of ski school (the chalet primarily uses Stoked, the leading independent school in Zermatt), helicopter drops, you name it. ^

for non skiers
Zermatt is a perfect resort for the non-skier too: gorgeous shops galore, horse drawn sleigh rides, the scenic Gornergratt railway to take you up the mountain with no need of skis, the Matterhorn Museum and even a cinema-cum-cocktail bar. ^

The designer interiors. ^

worst thing
The fact that you have to cater for yourself, but Zermatt is of course famous for its fantastic restaurants. ^

getting there
The nearest airports are Geneva (quickest by car), Zurich (quickest by train) and Sion. Transfers can be arranged by the chalet. ^
