Sumptuous luxury in ultimate
chic resort of Megève
usp
Chalet Tanniere is an impeccable, luxury chalet in the heart of the chic resort of Megève.
location
The chalet is located down a quiet residential lane with a handful of other stand-alone exclusive chalets, just a five minute walk from the centre of Megeve with all its beautiful shops, bars and restaurants. The nearest lift station is just five minutes away on foot or one minute by car.
style
Chalet Tanniere is beautifully contemporary in style. All the wood is smokey, the bathrooms all slate and chrome, and the generous open plan living area is elegantly furnished with a giant feature fireplace and modern, fully equipped designer kitchen. There are large open plan patio doors that lead out onto a balcony that overlooks the garden and a small stream. ^
rooms
It has five double bedrooms, all with stylish en suite shower rooms. Each is a good size, and the ones on the ground floor all have French windows opening out onto the garden which leads down to a stream that runs through the town. ^
food & drink
Chalet Tanniere can be rented fully catered or self-catered. The fully catered option includes wonderful pre-dinner canapés and champagne on five nights, followed by a superb 4-6 course feast washed down by complimentary wines. Each year the chalet works with local wine merchants to choose a good selection of house wines. They also have an extensive à la carte list of wines that clients can purchase from. It includes many fine wines from local vineyards and other regions of France as well as other selections from around the world. ^
service
The chalet can be booked on a fully serviced VIP basis with professional chalet staff ensuring that your stay is as indulgent as it can be, or the service can be more flexible and custom-built. Add-on extra services include everything from resort transfers by helicopter to in-chalet beauty treatments and massages, or live in or part time nannies. Secretarial services can also be arranged. ^
spa facilities
Chalet Tanniere has a huge 60 sq m spa area on the ground floor with dark slate tiles and soft blue lighting to aid relaxation. There is an indoor Jacuzzi and good-sized steam room that can comfortably seat up to 10 guests. The spa also has its own bar area. ^
children
Children’s mealtimes can be arranged earlier, to suit guests. There is also a roomy TV area on the mezzanine where children can loaf and play, and a garden that stretches down to a small mountain stream. ^
extras
There is outside parking for three cars and a large garden. ^
for skiers
Megève is a charming, traditional French resort favoured by chic French families. It has a lovely sunny setting and is excellent for those skiers who enjoy attractive scenery and undemanding, relaxed cruising. Best for intermediates wanting to ski pretty wooded slopes, the woods also making it a great resort in bad weather. There is good off-piste too, however, and the advantage is that expert skiers don’t have too much competition -- unlike in nearby Chamonix, it is still possible to find fresh tracks several days after a big snowfall. ^
for non skiers
Many people visit Megève who do not ski. There is plenty of lovely shopping to do, with several gorgeous interiors, antiques and fashion shops to browse in, as well as numerous art galleries and a local history museum. There is also gentle hiking in the nearby mountains (snow shoes necessary in the winter) and even tennis courts that are bookable by the hour in town (for summer). ^
best thing
The gorgeous designer lighting and minimal contemporary interiors. ^
worst thing
The fact that the Jacuzzi is indoor and not outdoor, so no sitting out under the stars, although it is a lovely spa area. ^
getting there
Geneva is the nearest airport, about 1hr 15 minutes away. Transfers are included when the chalet is booked on a fully catered basis, but not if booked self-catered. ^
bottom line
Chalet Tanniere costs from 24,000 euros (approx £21,200) fully catered in winter, and 7,700 euros (approx £6,800) in summer. ^
